Course Overview

Within this course, we will begin to breakdown the components of the complex concept of Communication. We will build our foundational understanding of speech, verbal language and nonverbal language before moving into recognition and support within the school setting.

Meet the facilitator

Alexis Smith

Alexis Smith has been part of the SENIA organization through various school communities since 2015. She presented at the online SENIA 2022 a presentation called "Lens on Data." She is a current sitting member of the SENIA Africa Board.

Alexis received a Masters in Communication Sciences and Disorders with a Reading Specialist Certificate in Boston, Massachusetts. While teaching overseas, she earned a Masters in Educational Leadership from Lead Inclusion and San Diego State University. Alexis has taken courses and received her Student Centered Coaching Certificate and has completed a variety of other develop around supporting neurodiverse learners, teachers, and educational programs.  

Alexis has previously lived and worked in the internal school communities of Beijing and Kuala Lumpur. She currently works at Lincoln Community School as the Student Support Services and Service Learning Coordinator. Outside of school, you will find Alexis traveling to seek out nature, animals, and scuba diving.
