Course Overview
Within this course, participants will gain valuable insights and knowledge about how our brains learn, the goal of Universal Design for Learning, and how embracing learner variability informs a strengths-based mindset. Together, we will learn about the value of goal-directed learning, and explore how to leverage the UDL Framework as a scaffold for identifying and reducing learning barriers for all learners.

Meet the Facilitators
Loui Lord Nelson
Loui Lord Nelson, Ph.D., is an internationally recognized leader in Universal Design for Learning (UDL) implementation. A former special education teacher, she was the UDL Coordinator for a school district for four years and then completed her UDL post-doctoral fellowship at CAST (the creators of UDL).
Loui has worked with educators across the U.S., Africa, Australia, Asia, Canada, and Europe and is currently working with USAID, the U.S. government-based aid organization, and implementing partners to define their application of UDL across low- and middle-income settings.
Some of her publications include: the 2nd edition of Design and Deliver: Planning and Teaching Using Universal Design for Learning, “The role of technology in implementing universal design for learning”, Culturally Responsive Design for English Learners: The UDL Approach, and A Tree for All: Your Coloring Book of UDL Principles and Practice. In addition, she created the card game Go Fishing with UDL, an interactive way to learn about UDL.

Beth Stark
Beth lives in Germany and partners with international schools as a consultant specialising in UDL implementation, building learner-centered systems of support, accessible technology integration, shifting mindsets, and igniting inclusive inquiry for all
learners. Her passion for reducing barriers through Universal Design for Learning began in her early years as a teacher of students who are Blind and Visually Impaired. Beth has sixteen years of IB international school experience and holds a Master's Degree in Special Education. Beth serves as the Co-Chairperson of the UDL-IRN Implementation Special Interest
Group, is an ISTE certified educator, and a CPACC certified member of the International Association of Accessibility Professionals.
